1923 Scott Squirrel
1923 Scott Squirrel
Several picture galleries of my 1923 Scott Squirrel two speeder. From the dealer pictures that made me buy it to the current state.
A 1912 Scott… just around the corner!
In June 2007 there was 1912 model Scott advertised in a village only 5 km away. Can you believe that! I went over at once to have a look at the bike. I immediately saw it was really a 1914 model and it was in a pretty good shape. No wonder I was seriously interested!
The seller did not know anything about Scott, he inherited the bike from his uncle. As a matter of fact he advertised the bike as a “Scott Shirley”… He also told me he wanted to sell it to a real enthusiast and did only want a fair price. But later on it turned out he was really looking for gold.. So in the end the bike turned out to be way to expensive for me….
Got to have one…
But it got the fire seriously burning for a two speeder… I had known for quite some time of a nice 1923 two speeder for sale at British Only Austria and I decided to ask for some more information… This was the start of a long period of email and phone conversations. To get more background info on the bike I posted the prospective buy on the SOC forum. This eventually brought me in contact with the man that previously owned the bike, Mr. Kenneth Irvine from Ireland. My telephone call with him really was the last push I needed to go and buy the bike.
Buying a bike that is over 1.000 km away over the internet is quite tricky but with all the information I gathered I thought it would be a good and honest bike…
She arrived!
On August 20 my two speeder arrived on my doorstep. A little earlier than expected but I did not mind! The bike was delivered by Mr. Chas Mortimer, the famous motorcycle racer! Of course I asked him to pose with my Scott and give me a signature which he kindly did. I photo-shopped it into the picture afterwards and think it looks kind of cool…
Below some links to some small video clips of the first starting attempts and my first riding on a two speed Scott! The videos are hosted on YouTube.

- Look at that smoke!
Magazine feature
In 2008 the bike was featured in the Dutch classic bike magazine “Het Motorrijwiel” to commemorate the Scott Centennial. The two part article turned out really nice and you can read it here (pdf): part 1 & part 2
